St. Paddy's in Auckland

Auckland Weather: high 70's, sunny

We finally made it to New Zealand! After about 32 hours of travel our vacation can finally begin! We slept surprisingly well on our overnight flight & were ready to hit the ground running... kinda.

[On a side note, props to Air Pacific! We received two hot meals on our 12 hour flight. I did sleep through the dinner portion, and I couldn't eat my tater tots in the second one because they were touching my unwanted eggs, but I still applaud their effort! I also received a lovely continental breakfast on our flight from Fiji to Auckland. It was complete with FRESH pineapple! Absolutely lovely. (We didn't even get snacks on any of our other flights.)]

Somehow all of our flights got in early, customs was a breeze, picking up our rental car presented no problems, and we made it to our first excursion on time! Things are going remarkably well thus far!

Our North Island rental car... look closely & you'll see the steering wheel on the opposite side!

We had a sailing trip booked in Viaduct Harbour through Explore New Zealand. We arrived to the harbor with time to spare, so prior to leaving on the boat we grabbed a beer at a bar & grill on the water called Degree. I had a Tui Blonde & Peter had some sort of ale.

It's St. Patrick's Day today and people seem as hard core here as they do in the US! There was lots of celebrating, and it's only early afternoon on a Thursday!

Crazy drunk men dressed as teletubbies... they were "assulting" women

We went on a 90 minute sailing adventure ! It was a great way to start the trip after being cramped up on planes for so long. The city looked beautiful & we even got to see a few penguins swimming in the bay!

Pretty view

There's a penguin- I swear!

We headed back to check into Copthorne Hotel in center city.

We walked around the city & grabbed some Kebabs for dinner. Peter was quite excited about the passion fruit soda he had with his!

Happy Peter

After dinner we walked back to the hotel & passed through Albert Park.

In the city

All in all, it was a lovely first day! Auckland is pretty sweet, but I don't really feel like I'm on the other side of the world! Peter thought Auckland kinda reminded him of Canada- a newer city where they speak english & it's pretty clean. I agreed.
