Crazy Cat Picture of the Day

This was just too ridiculous not to share. I still don't quite understand it.

Mean Kitty Mommy

My youngest daughter & I had a bit of a troublesome weekend. On & off for the past 3 years Hallie has made it a habit to pee in boxes, baskets, and anything else she can get her rotund body in. She didn't develop this habit until I moved to Rochester, so I often wonder if it was her way of dealing with the move.... not really, but I'm trying to find some reasonable explanation for this behavior.

The first time I realized she peed outside of her litterbox I just about kicked her out of the house. The first incident was when she used a J.Crew box as a bathroom. Shortly after I took her to the vet to investigate & they told me she had a minor UTI & that should explain the change in behavior.... it did not. She continued to find random places, such as a cat bed, a basket filled with toys, pop-up cat cubes & another random box to pee in. So, the only reasonable solution seemed to be to get rid of anything she could go inside.... problem solved!

Unfortunately, my husband & I like to test her & see how far she's actually come. We never do this intentionally, but when we do she always seems to fail. Case in point-

Thursday night I left my empty laundry basket next to the dryer waiting for my clothes to dry. At some point in the night I found Hallie sitting in there. I was only temporarily worried since she has NEVER peed in a laundry basket.... well, there was that one time that I left an empty laundry basket next to her litterbox, but I take full responsibility for that one. Regardless, I was not concerned. Friday, after work, I decided I had one more load of laundry to do, so before putting my clean clothes in the basket, I grabbed it and brought it upstairs to put dirty clothes in. Apparently my mind was somewhere else 'cause I didn't notice that cat pee spilled all over my kitchen floor as I haphazardly picked up the laundry basket. When I did notice that this had happened I lost all self control. I screamed so loud that my neighbors surely thought I was being attacked. I continued to yell as I went to find Hallie, pick her up, carry her to the site of the incident & continue to yell at her. I tried my best to make her know that this was not acceptable. At the very least she realized that mommy had gone crazy & spent the remainder of the night hiding upstairs under our dresser.

She's lucky she's too cute to send back to the SPCA!

Hallie & I spent the majority of the weekend in separate rooms and we continue to work on our relationship.... only time will tell.

Kitty Showdown

I don't intend on my blog to be taken over by cat lady entries, but allow me to post this without passing judgement.

Peter & I caught a little kitty showdown on our back porch yesterday. Muffin's arch nemesis (ie some neighborhood cat) was soaking up the sun on our hot tub when Muffin decided to do the same on the windowsill..... Nemesis was not happy about this.

(FYI: The video is longer than necessary due to my inability to edit.)

Cancer! Is it Cancer?!

Today I was once again reminded why I need to think twice before having children. To put it simply, I would be the most paranoid, neurotic mother EVER!

Peter called and e-mailed me shortly after I got to work today. He told me that something was wrong with Muffin. Apparently when he got out of the shower he saw a bunch of blood in the kitchen and drops in my bedroom. Muffin was hiding out in the closet. It seemed like she was sneezing blood out of her nose and she may had thrown some up. I got scared right away. I knew there was a vet's office down the street from me, so I asked Peter if he would call to see if he could take her in. Of course he did not hesitate to say he would.

I got off the phone and told a few people what was going on. Of course there is always that one person who tells you the absolute worst thing that you need to hear at that moment. She's like, "I had a cat that threw up blood. I won't tell ya what happened to her, but it was not good." Seriously. Who says that?! I calm down a bit and then the unnamed co-worker says something else that makes me cry. All I can think is that my poor baby Muffin has cancer. Not only does she have cancer, but she has such bad cancer that I will never even be able to see her again. Seriously.

Finally, Peter calls to tell me that he had to take her to some vet ER. The conclusion the doctor came to is that the blood was probably caused by trauma. She probably fell from somewhere, ran into something, her baby sister bitch-slapped her, etc. All are possibilities. Of course, there is the possibility that she does in fact have cancer, but that is very unlikely since she's so young. The doctor felt pretty sure that it was trauma induced bleeding (or at least that's what I'm told....I suppose Peter could've made that all up to save me the heartache of knowing my kitty has cancer.....let's not think about that).

So, I came home to my poor pitiful Muffin, and she kinda looks like she was beat up today. She looks like shit and all she wants to do is sleep. So, I am staying by her side hoping for a speedy recovery. Here's a picture of her during happier times:

So, as you can see, if I were to have children this would be a million times worse. I don't think I could deal with this stuff. I mean, yeah, a kid runs into a wall and gets a bloody nose, I could get over that and survive. But, cancer and other serious things? I don't think I could ever begin to deal with that. I'm sure most mothers would say the same thing, but the thing is that I worry about that stuff and I don't even have any offspring! Imagine if I did!

**Oh, and before ending this post, I would like to thank Peter for being the best boyfriend in the world. Thank you for putting your life on hold, missing hours of work, finding a vet, comforting Muffin, and doing it all without complaining or telling me that I owe you! I love you & so does Muffin (and to a lesser extent Hallie)!

No, I don't hate dogs, but I do hate you

Well, I've been in Rochester for a week now and have learned so much about myself that I decided to start up my old blog again. My myspace blog annoys me, is kinda crappy, and I can't figure out how to put pictures on it, so I decided to abandon ship and come back to blogger.com.

Anyway, Muffin, Hallie & I are settling nicely into our new home. It's more room than I originally thought it would be which was a pleasant surprise. The girls absolutely love running like crazy on the carpeted floor, and have lots of fun playing on the stairs.

Enough about my cats though, 'cause I'm well aware that everyone doesn't love them as much as I do. Which reminds me of something (one more cat story). The Time Warner guy (Who was incredibly hot! I expected some old, fat man.) had to come over yesterday to fix my ghetto cable. So, he comes in and Muffin gives him the death stare and then Hallie runs away. He then says to me, "What? You don't like dogs?" Huh? What would possess someone to say that upon meeting me? Why do you have to make it seem like dogs are better than cats? As if a person would have to absolutely hate dogs to even consider not having one, and that said person would be making a horrible decision by doing that!

I proceeded to explain to him that up until 2 years ago I did not like any animal at all, but he didn't really seem interested. He had already classified me as a loser cat lady who hates dogs. Whatever! I proceeded to classify him as a loser cable guy who thinks he's hotter than he is AND has no manners whatsoever. Actually, I take that back, he covered up his shoes before walking on my carpet which was nice of him. Maybe he has SOME manners, although I'm sure it's in his policy and procedures manual to do that.

Ya know what? This is a pretty lengthy blog without my going into my realizations about myself, so I'll save those for next time. I'll close this blog with a photo of my adorable little girls in one of their favorite places in our new home.
